PAIR CUSTOM CORAL WINDOW VALENCES, PROVENANCE BROOKE ASTOR NYC LIBRARY

A pair of custom window valences created for the New York City library of Brooke Astor and exemplify refined, traditional American interior decoration. Executed with a shaped, scalloped profile, the valences are upholstered in a richly patterned textile with an allover, repeating motif rendered in warm, muted tones of terracotta, soft red, sage green, and parchment beige that reflects European 18th century textile influence. A contrasting red welt outlines the scalloped edge, crisply defining the contour and adding visual depth.  A set of custom window decoration directly associated with a notable private interior.
